# 28 2026 Dev. Isa.49:1. The Lord’s Servant! Read all of chapter forty-nine first. We invite you into God’s space, to read His Word, to think on and interact with. This is God’s Story. Do you believe that this may also be part of our story, in our time? All passages are taken from the NIV.
Isaiah 49. There is a radical shift in this chapter. The first verse sets the tone; “Before I was born the Lord called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name… I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” This reminds us of Gen. 18:18 “Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him.”
Vs.1-6 The prophet speaks for God’ “Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations… He made my mouth like a sharpened sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me into a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.” Here Isaiah refers to Rev. 1:16 and Rev 19:15, where God is addressing the whole world. The prophet answers; “But I said ‘I have labored in vain… Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand, and my reward is with my God.’” Many of us, who’s work is to labor for God, can identify the struggle is real, the work is demanding, the rewards are minimal, yet it is a great blessing to be called by God!
V.7. “This is what the Lord says—to him who was despised…Kings will see you and stand up…because… the holy one of Israel, who has chosen you.”
Restoration of Israel
Vs.8-13 “This is what the Lord says: In the time of my favor I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you… He who has compassion on them will guide them and lead them beside springs of water. I will turn all my mountains into roads and my highways will be raised up… Shout for joy…rejoice…burst into song… For the Lord comforts His people.” Israel is the underlying people for God’s salvation, Jesus, is a Jew as well as the Son of God. We are so blessed in this time of God’s salvation time line. In Christ, by His grace and love, we are able to experience God freely. Think about that!
Vs14-21. “But Zion said, ‘the Lord has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me.”’ The Prophet answers for God; “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” Thank you, Lord Jesus! “Your sons hasten back, and those who laid you waste depart from you. Lift up your eyes and look around; all your sons gather and come to you.” God will restore all those lost by persecution, by unjust rulings, by illness and war brought on by Satan and everything else that Satan dishes out. Praise be to God!
Vs.22-26. “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: See, I will beckon to the nations, I will lift up my banner to the peoples; they will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their shoulders…Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed… Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce…Then all mankind will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”
The promises of God are true and they can be relied on through the ages, it came true then and it is true today!
