# 35 2024 Dev. SS.6:10 “Bright As The Sun!” Read all of chapter six first. We invite you into God’s space, to read His Word, to think on and interact with. This is God’s Story. Do you believe that this may also be part of our story, in our time? All passages are taken from the NIV.
SS.6:10 “Who is this that appears like the dawn, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, majestic as the stars in procession?”
Song of Songs. For centuries this book has been controversial in terms of how to read it. Is this a literal description of human relationships or is it allegorical, a rendering of the relationship of God and Israel or for Christians, Christ and the church? We have seen all three aspects displayed.
SS.6. In ch. 5 she is describing her lover. But in ch 6 she is asked; “where has your beloved gone… that we may look for him with you?” She answers, and he proceeds to describe her as in ch. 4. Friends ask, “Who is this that appears like the dawn. I went down to the valley, come back, come back.”
V.1 Friends. “Where has your beloved gone…?” Christ is not obvious to this world, He is only accessed by the Holy Spirit.
Vs.2-3 She. My beloved has gone down to his garden,” the militant church is in the world, a place of refuge, a place of respite. God’s people belong to Christ and He belongs to God’s people.
Vs.4-9 He. “You are as beautiful as Tirzah, (a city of beauty) as lovely as Jerusalem, as majestic as troops with banners.” The militant church is described here. Next is the description of ch. 4, describing His lover. Perfect in every way, righteous, submissive, obedient, outstanding and unique when compared to the religions of the world, made that way by Jesus’s sacrifice and love.
V.10 Friends. “Who is this that appears like the dawn”, shining like the sun (Son), Christ in His majesty.
Vs.11-12 He. “I went down to the grove…” My people. “To look at the new growth…” in the church. Is there growth? “to see if the vines had budded… Before I realized it, my desire set me among the royal chariots of my people” I became one of them!
V.13 Friends. Come Back, come back…” that we may know you! Why? That you may know Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit! Come quickly Lord Jesus!
