# 07 2023 Dev. Prov.8:4. God’s Wisdom! Read all of chapter eight first. We invite you into God’s space, to read His Word, to think on and interact with. This is God’s story! Do you believe that this is also our story, in our time? All passages are taken from the NIV.
Proverbs 8:4 ‘“To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind.”’
Proverbs 8 “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.” Here in chapter eight wisdom is personified, It is one long quote from vs 12-36 giving instruction that should be familiar to all of us.
Vs.1-11 The chapter starts with a rhetorical question, “Does not wisdom call out?” Yes, wisdom stands at every path, every crossroad, every gate at the city, at every portal of our lives. This is about how we plan, or do not plan to live our lives. Wisdom is trustworthy, speaks what is right, what is true, and what is just. Choose wisdom over gold or silver, “nothing you desire can compare with her.”
Vs.12-21 Prudence and discretion are the hallmarks. Evil is rejected, pride and arrogance an affront to God, perverse speech, evil. All who rule on the earth and practice wisdom are a blessing, they love me and seek to find me. All who follow me “walk in the way of righteousness, along the path of justice.
Vs.22-29 Wisdom came to expression at creation, God’s wisdom is all around us every day. God’s wisdom is also expressed in Jesus and in the Holy Spirit. “God, three in one,” from eternity to eternity.
Vs.30-31 Here we are tempted to place Jesus in the text, but there is no proof that Solomon wants to call Jesus, God’s wisdom, in this context. However, John 1:3 tells us that through him, Jesus, all things were made.
Vs.32-36 Solomon ends with good advice, “blessed are those who keep my (wisdom) ways, Blessed are those who listen to me.” “For those who find me find life” But those who do not seek or find me, love death and not life. Choose life while it may be found. Amen!
