God blesses His People!

# 31 2022 Dev. Psalm 144:15. God Blesses His People! Read all of Psalm 144 first.  We invite you into God’s space, to read His Word, to think on and interact with. This is God’s story. How will it affect yours? All passages are taken from the NIV.

Psalm 144:15 “blessed is the people whose God is the Lord.”

Intro. Ps.138-145 are eight Davidic Psalms of Prayer/ Praise leading close to the end of the Psalter. The series is framed by two praise Psalms, Ps.138 praising God for answered prayer and Ps.145 praising God for His care of all of creation.

Psalm 144 is a praise prayer for deliverance, praise for God’s concern for the human race and the benefits of God’s love for his people.

Vs.1-2 “Praise be to the Lord my Rock” In the Old Test. “Rock” refers to Jesus Christ. David is under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. David uses five battle terms to describe God’s love: fortress, stronghold, deliverer, shield and refuge. God is all that and much more to those who love God, His Son and Spirit.

Vs.3-4 “Lord, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them?” God’s care does not cross the mind of the unbeliever but it is a question followers of Jesus ask as well. What is the answer? God loves His creation, including all people; He grieves our fall, the lack of fellowship the lack of love and the lack of care for this world

Vs.5-8 “Part your heavens, Lord, and come down…” David, in desperation, calls on God to display His power in the world in order to be rescued from overwhelming threats. Followers of Jesus must pray this prayer for Ukraine, Afghanistan and for every country where injustice reigns and the innocent suffer. Perhaps we should include our country as well!

Vs.9-10 “I will sing a new song to you, my God…” to you God “who gives victory, who delivers, who rescues” your servants. O, Lord, God our Rock delivers us from the evils of addiction, from the untruths swirling around us and from the injustices of our land.

Vs.12-15 “Then our sons (daughters) in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants.” Because of your love for us and as we acknowledge your love, and follow your ways, there will be prosperity in the land; more than enough for all and peace and tranquility for all. We end as the Psalmist ends.

“Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed is the people whose God is the Lord.” Amen and Amen!
